Domestic U.S. events | International events

Each summer, Cornell alumni clubs and associations around the world host student send-off events to celebrate Cornell’s incoming class. These events are a fantastic chance for students to build connections within their local community. Unlike an orientation, which is more structured and informational, these gatherings are designed to foster social interactions and create a sense of belonging among students. It’s all about making new friends and feeling more at home within the Big Red community!

Events are updated regularly, so be sure to check back frequently. Students will receive a personal invitation to their Cornell University email inbox!

2025 Send-offs

Below are some considerations for selecting a venue and setting a date:

Accessibility: Choose a venue that is easily accessible to a wide range of people. Consider proximity to your city/town, public transportation options, and parking availability.
Capacity: Ensure that the venue can comfortably accommodate the expected number of attendees.
Amenities: Look for a venue that offers the necessary amenities such as AV equipment, seating arrangements, and catering services if needed.
Atmosphere: Consider the atmosphere of the venue and how it aligns with the tone of the event. We want a space that feels welcoming and conducive to networking and interaction.
Hosts: Consider asking local alumni, parents, or Cornell-connected businesses to host the event at their home or venue. (Your engagement officer can help!)
Ideas: A local park, a restaurant, a sports club, botanical gardens, an art gallery, etc.

Select a date between Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, August 17, 2025.
- This date selection timeline is important as it aligns with when the school year ends for high school students and when the Cornell school year begins for incoming students. We acknowledge this is a short window, so it’s important to start your planning now.
Coordinate with club and association volunteers and alumni to avoid scheduling conflicts with your local city/town events and holidays.
Aim for a date that allows sufficient time for you to plan and market, while also giving students and alumni ample notice to mark their calendars!
