The good Cornellians can do: Sagar Chapagain ’17
As a resident physician, Sagar Chapagain ’17 works long hours. During his free time, Sagar volunteers as a physician at Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America Health Camp. This program offers free care to people who lack insurance or support—people who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
“I sit with patients, listen to their stories, check blood pressures, and talk about mental health,” Sagar says. “It’s not just about medicine—it’s about meeting people where they are and honoring their dignity.”
Sagar was a first-gen student who started at community college and transferred to Cornell. He recalls feeling unsure of how to navigate the world of higher education, but very sure of his commitment to serve others.
He now mentors other students on the path from community college to university to medical school, and beyond.
“Many are searching for someone who sees them and believes in them,” he observes. “I’ve been that person, because I remember what it meant to have someone do that for me.”
Cornellians around the globe are sharing how they do good in communities big and small. Share your own story.
