The good Cornellians can do: David Halberstadter ’79
One of the highlights of David Halberstadter's year is the annual Special Olympics of Southern California (SOSC) ‘Plane Pull’—which is literally when a team of 25 humans work together to pull a Boeing 737 jet (weighing 137,000 lbs) a distance of 12 feet. Teams are comprised of people of all ages, including people with intellectual disabilities.
David is on the executive committee of the SOSC board, where he helps with strategic planning, securing gifts and corporate partnerships, and overseeing his law firm's (Katten Muchin) sponsorship of the organization. SOSC is part of the global Special Olympics organization, the world's largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities.
“Our mission, like that of our Special Olympics sister organizations, is to help people of all ages with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills, and success through the power of sports,” David says.
