Using The Earth to Heat Our Planet, Beginning With Cornell

While we often hear about solar and wind as alternative energy sources, we don’t hear as much about geothermal resources, a low-carbon alternative, for meeting our heating demands.

Successful demonstrations will be needed to catalyze geothermal adoption. Cornell is undertaking one – drilling a bore hole on campus to evaluate the direct use of Earth Source Heat technology to provide geothermal heat. The project is a key component of Cornell’s strategy to reach carbon neutrality for the Ithaca campus by 2035.

Join us to hear Professor Jefferson Tester, who is leading Cornell’s decarbonization efforts. Dr. Tester is the Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell and Cornell’s Principal Scientist for Earth Source Heat.

This will also be our ‘Red and White’ Meeting, which is the Club’s annual meeting at which we elect Board Members.
