Take a walking tour with Francis Morrone, an architectural historian and author known for his work on the built history of New York City. The walk will take place in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

With its rich multi-ethnic history of German, Irish, eastern European Jewish, and Chinese settlements, perhaps no other single place in the country tells us more about our immigrant history.  Highlights include a typology of tenements, grand synagogues and Irish Catholic churches, the Manhattan Bridge Arch and Colonnade, and much more. Today the neighborhood may be more diverse than ever, as Chinese, bankers, and members of an Orthodox Jewish revival that has taken place in the neighborhood share the streets. But enough of the old still exists to give a very vivid sense of the history of a neighborhood that more than any other once defined New York City.
