Hello NYC Cornell Alums!
NYC Cornellian’s Movie Club has a special outing next weekend which we’d like to invite the whole community to.
This special outing will be at one of New York City’s most breathtaking venues—the historic United Palace theater in Washington Heights—on Sunday, April 19th at 2:00 PM for a screening of the classic comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
For those who haven’t been, the United Palace is one of the oldest theaters in NYC and a true architectural masterpiece. Originally opened in the 1930s as a premier vaudeville and cinema venue, it has since been fully restored to its original grandeur. This is a rare chance not only to see a legendary film, but to experience it in an extraordinary setting.
Even better, our group will be part of a full Monty Python-themed event, complete with immersive activities—and an exclusive Cornell-only talkback session after the film.
🎭 The Day’s Events
2:00 PM – Immersive Pre-Show Experience
The theater will transform into a playful, interactive adventure as guests encounter characters from the film while “searching for the Holy Grail” throughout the venue. Following the immersive experience, enjoy a curated lineup of shorts, cartoons, and a brief documentary about the theater.
3:00 PM – Feature Presentation
Settle in for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the iconic comedy following King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their absurd and unforgettable quest.
4:30 PM – Post-Film: Exclusive Cornell Experience
After the movie, we’ll have a private Q&A and mini-tour with Greg Ippolito, House Manager of the United Palace, who will share insights into the theater’s history and architecture.
👉 Important: Please head to the Mezzanine level (near the VIP Lounge/Men’s Room) immediately after the film to access this Cornell-exclusive event. There will be no general announcement.

🏛 About the United Palace Theater
Built nearly 100 years ago as one of Loew’s “Wonder Theaters,” the United Palace was a 3,000-seat showcase for vaudeville and film. Designed by the same visionaries behind the Waldorf Astoria and the Ziegfeld Theatre, it was once described by The New York Times as a “kitchen sink masterpiece” for its lavish, eclectic design. After decades of decline, the theater has been beautifully restored and is once again a vibrant cultural hub—hosting films, concerts, and community events.
