Gerald Beasley, formerly vice provost and chief librarian at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, was named the new Carl A. Kroch University Librarian in May 2017.  At the University of Alberta, he was responsible for eight public service libraries on three campuses as well as the University Archives, Press Bookstores, Museums and Collection Services, Copyright Office and Technology Training Center.
