Waking the Form: Artist Books in Context

Artists have long used traditional and non-traditional forms of the book as a medium to communicate ideas, preserve personal and cultural narratives, present social interventions, challenge conventions, examine the past, and imagine the future.

Marcie Farwell and Marsha Taichman, two curators of the exhibit Waking the Form: Artist Books in Context, will discuss how this exhibition explores the modern artists’ book and its lineage through selections from Cornell’s collections. Highlights from Cornell’s contemporary book arts holdings alongside artifacts and historical documents present a dialogue between past and present, and illuminate a long history of artistic exploration of the book. The exhibition will open in June in the Rare & Manuscript Collections.

After the presentation you are invited to RMC to see the materials that will be on exhibit in June.
