Could an ultra-modern murder mystery plot provide captivating insights on technology and career opportunities? (Read entirely.) This Month … CTBN’s keynote will discuss the just released thriller, The Oracle, authored by Cornell Tech Professor Ari Juels who is also the codirector of the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (IC3) and Chief Scientist at Chainlink Labs.

And while Dr. Juels is a blockchain luminary, there is no tech competence needed for this event. Here’s the thought-provoking angle: The Oracle is a cautionary tale about weaponized blockchain written in the hope of preventing untoward uses of the financial system. Where do we draw the line between life and fiction? What are the emerging career implications? Are you curious about the ramifications when tech goes rogue? What are the legal, financial and moral consequences and what skills are needed to prevent and combat rogue blockchain and AI?

We will explore what happens in the novel when the FBI enlists a developer’s aid in thwarting a (smart) contract’s cryptocurrency bounty on a European archeology professor. What happens when the crypto ideals of privacy and truth might cost human lives?
