“Family Rifts and How to Mend Them: Findings from the Cornell Family Reconciliation Project”

Five years ago, Cornell sociologist Dr. Karl Pillemer decided to undertake a major research project on family rifts and the ways people overcome them. Using in-depth interviews with family members and family therapists, as well as a national survey, he brings research to bear on questions like: How prevalent are estrangements in families? What causes rifts? Most important, Pillemer conducted the largest study ever done of individuals who successfully reconciled after years, or decades of estrangement.
