THE YALE CLUB OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA

ANNUAL “IN-TOWN” ADVENTURE

Saturday, March 19th
9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

HISTORIC EVERGREEN CEMETERY
3015 NORTH ORACLE ROAD

I know that this cemetery is where you always wanted to be on a beautiful Spring morning.  Our tour will be a fascinating trip back in time, for the most enjoyable history lesson you have ever had.  We are going to visit the gravesides of Tucson pioneers!  Our guides will be costumed as early Tucson personages upon whose gravesides they stand, as they recall the “stories” of their lives.  These early settlers (our guides) don’t die after their stories are told, but are ready to answer all of our questions on our “break.”

The creators of Evergreen Cemetery (in 1907) relocated the graves from the old cemetery in Tucson, along with the graves at the Presidio Cemetery.  They put everyone together under twelve varieties of evergreen trees in a beautiful, final resting spot.  Many of our Tucson streets are named after these famous pioneers.  At last, those mysterious street names will come alive for us.

This “must-go” Tour is sponsored by the Arizona Historical Society Docent Council.  We are all grateful to them.  See you all there!
