Event Details

Joseph Berger, for 31 years a reporter for The NY Times, will talk about his two-year-long encounter with the rising twin-span replacement for the Tappan Zee. Berger was 10-years-old when he was mesmerized daily crossing the new three-mile-long Tappan Zee toward his day camp in Rockland County and so was enticed by the prospect of charting the building of a replacement. He watched the piles being drilled, the foundations being laid, the first horizontal girders being stretched and even wrent to the Panama Canal to see the world’s lkargest floating crane make its journey from the West Coast to the Hudson River.
