Event Details

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Optional No-Host Breakfast Afterwards!  This is a multi-club event, so non-Cornellians should sign up with their own club.

This Hollywood sign hike is a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being most difficult), owing to the total of about 15 minutes each way in several stretches over some narrow rocky trails to and from the sign and the 3 hours to complete this 6-mile hike.  We’ll begin by quickly ascending the Bird Sanctuary trail and veering left toward Mt. Hollywood, then taking the high road to the sign.  Same route back but with a possible stop at Mt. Hollywood to overlook the Observatory.  This hike is a walk in the clouds.  Eagle-eye views of Hollywood, Glendale, Burbank, up and down the coastline, Catalina (on a very clear day), the San Gabriel Mountains, the Lake Hollywood Reservoir and flowing traffic (or clogged) on the maze of freeways below.  Even at this hour, the trails are filled with hikers, bicyclers, horseback riders and all shapes and forms of outdoor enthusiasts. For anyone who’s interested after the hike, the Roosevelt Café, (2650 N. Vermont Ave.) is right there.  And after 3 hours of hiking, a cup of coffee and a grilled chicken sandwich will never taste better…..Bring at least (2) 17-oz bottles of water, a hat and a good sun block.  You will be required to sign a waiver form before the hike starts.
