Event Details

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Optional No-Host Breakfast Afterwards!  This is a multi-club event, so non-Cornellians should sign up with their own clubs.

This “ridge” hike is a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being most difficult) for beginning hikers – owing to the start where it’s a little steep for about 20 yards and then for 50 yards at the end of the ridge trail – and a 5 for experienced  hikers.  We’ll begin hiking up the hill just across from the Greek Theater and we’ll go up one of the ridges that meets the Hogback trail close to the water fountain at Dante’s Garden.  From there, up along the east-facing Hogback trail which gives the spectacular view (all views dependent on the weather) of Glendale, the 5 freeway and the San Gabriel Mountains, to the top of Mt. Hollywood with 360-degree airplane views of the mountains, downtown L.A., the Valley, the ocean and  up and down the coastline. The descent will be down the Hogback trail (viewing the rolling mountainsides and panoramic views) to the Roosevelt Golf Course and then 15 minutes around the golf course and past the tennis courts to Vermont Ave. by the entrance to the Greek Theater.  For anyone who’s interested after the hike, the Roosevelt Cafe is right there for breakfast…..Bring at least (2) 17-oz bottles of water, a hat and a good sun block.  You will be required to sign a waiver form before the hike starts.
