Topic: Inside A U.S. Embassy – Diplomacy At Work

Speaker: Hank Webb, Cornell SHA, MPS ’74

WHEN U.S. DIPLOMATS  negotiate a treaty, attend a state dinner, or arrange a visa for a traveler to the United States, they all have the same mission—to represent the interests and policies of the United States. Beyond that, diplomats’ roles and responsibilities are immensely varied. Hank, now a retired career diplomat who served twenty years with U.S Department of State in the U.W. Foreign Service (Diplomatic Corps) will share his experiences and memories not only from a historic perspective, but from a people standpoint as well. Hank and his wife Jean (Cornell HE, PhD ’78) have traveled the globe with both the Peace Corp and the Diplomatic Corps. Hank also served as the Director of International Law Enforcement Academies in Washington DC overseeing the  training procedures for the U.S Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the world and coordinating the diplomatic security of the FBI, the Secret Service, the Treasury and the State Department.  You are sure to be captivated by his experiences.

We encourage you to arrive promptly at noon and be prepared to order so that there is time for questions and discussion following Hank’s  presentation.  The menu with choices for each course is below.  The price is $22 plus beverage, tax and tip. The Capital Grill is one of the finest restaurants in the area and we have a very nice private room reserved.  Valet parking is complimentary, as well as free self parking behind the next door Fish Market Restaurant.
