Defense spending is a major component of most nation’s budgets and economies.  On February 21, we invite you to join us for expert presentations by two faculty members from Cornell’s Department of Government, Professor Sarah Kreps and Professor Gustavo A. Flores-Macías.

Dr. Kreps is the author of four books, two of them on drones, Drones: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press, 2016) and Drone Warfare (Polity Press, 2014; with John Kaag). Drone programs span decades and countries, with complex ethical, political and legal implications. Learn about this multidimensional technology and its impact on our lives, society and the world stage.

Militarization of Policing in Latin America

Professor Flores-Macías is an expert on a variety of topics related to political and economic development. Recently published in The Washington Post, this is an opportunity to hear more about his research firsthand and further engage in this timely topic. Learn about the militarization of law enforcement and evidence of its potential, and likelihood, to increase violence rather than lessen it.

When:  6:30 PM, Thursday, February 21, 2019.  Three course dinner will be served starting at 7 PM.   The presentations will immediately follow dinner.
