A Struggle for Balance: Seven Months in Israel / Palestine

Special Guest and Speaker
Dr. Kathleen Schatzberg
Ex-President of Cape Cod Community College; Social Advocate for Human Rights and Diversity

MEETING DATE: Friday, October 25, 2019

TIME: 11:30 AM: Cash bar — 12:00 Noon: Luncheon

PLACE: The Cape Codder Resort

DIRECTIONS: Corner of Bearse’s Way and Route 132

Dr. Kathleen Schatzberg, who retired in 2012 after 14 years as president of Cape Cod Community College, recently lived in Jerusalem for seven months, seeking balance among the political and religious extremes, and sources of hope for resolution of conflicts in the region. She will discuss her experience there, include illustrations in her presentation, and suggest readings for those of us who want to pursue additional information.

Prior to Cape Cod Community College, Dr. Schatzberg held administrative and faculty positions at community colleges in New York and Minnesota; taught English in urban, suburban and rural secondary schools; and, in the private sector, worked in market research and microform data storage. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska and doctorate at Hofstra University.

Kathleen Schatzberg has life-long commitments to human rights and diversity. She pens “Community Counts,” a monthly column in The Barnstable Patriot, and offers consulting, writing/editing and fundraising services for non-profits with social justice missions. Since retirement, she has avoided board service in favor of direct charitable work, such as a local soup kitchen and efforts to help elders “age in place” in their own homes.
