Join the Cornell Club of Greater Buffalo on Saturday April 29th at 11AM as we tour ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150 with founder and noted artist/designer Dennis Maher ’99 and current board member Jack McGowan ’80. Maher will take us through the journey of his organization: from idea inception and stabilizing the historic church at 150 Edward St. to educational initiatives in the building arts and recent designs for sculptural environments.

ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150 is an experimental art/architecture space, specializing in the design and display of imaginative environments, furnishings, and aesthetic objects, while hosting public exhibitions, educational programs, and events that enhance the sense of wonder within everyday surroundings.

ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150 serves the Buffalo, NY community as an art/design/construction incubator. The organization provides opportunities for students and apprentices to participate in projects that enhance the built environment while teaching skills in the building arts. It hosts public exhibitions that support the theme of the “urban imagination” and catalyzes projects in collaboration with building industry tradespeople.

ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150 is located at 150 Edward Avenue, Buffalo NY 14201. More information is available at the organization’s website:

https://www.assemblyhouse150.org/

The Club will be meeting on the site at 11AM. A $10 donation to ASSEMBLY HOUSE 150 will be collected at the door.

Please dress weather appropriate as the church is not heated. Afterwards join us for a dutch-treat lunch at Betty’s, just down the street!

Dennis Maher ‘99, Founder/Director

Dennis Maher is an artist, designer, and educator. His work is a quest to restore the primacy of imagination to the center of self and community. Maher collects and assembles objects, people and stories—often those that have been left behind or forgotten—to create spaces where imagination can thrive. He works with the immediacy of his own surroundings, including the city of Buffalo, his own house and his studio/workshop, and connects the physical world and its patterns of creation and destruction to the innermost landscapes of mind. In 2009, Maher established the Fargo House, an immersive sculptural environment within his house on Fargo Avenue in Buffalo. Exhibitions of his work have been presented at venues nationally and internationally, including at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, where he was the 2012-2013 Artist-in-Residence. His work has been featured in NYTimes, Sculpture Magazine, Architectural Review, ARCHDaily. Maher has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at SUNY, University at Buffalo since 2004.
