Event Details

Location: Phoenix, AZ

We’ll kick off Wednesday, July 12th with an opportunity to exchange our own stories over drinks and light fare at Hob Nobs Cafe at 149 West McDowell Road in Phoenix. Guests will be responsible for their own tabs; we’ll enjoy happy hour pricing with discounted beer, wine, and appetizers.

At 6:15 p.m., we’ll walk 1 block (.3 mile) over to the Phoenix Theatre (100 East McDowell Road, Phoenix) where we’ll join azcentral.com and The Arizona Republic for a night of storytelling from the journalists at The Republic and azcentral.com. We’ll hear the stories behind the stories that make this community so wild and wonderful.

Featured tellers:
– Rebekah Sanders, Maricopa County politics and government reporter
– Kaila White, reporter
– John D’Anna, Page 1 editor
– Craig Harris, state agencies reporter
– Yihyun Jeong, public safety reporter

At the Phoenix Theatre, doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the program begins at 7:00 p.m.

Arizona Storytellers Project started in 2011 and has held monthly nights of storytelling since, drawing hundreds of people each month. In 2012, the series won a National Headliner Award for Journalistic Innovation. “The series is dedicated to the idea that oral storytelling and journalism are dedicated to the same goals: serving and reflecting a community while fostering empathy among those people. These nights blend the authenticity and hype-free discipline of storytelling as an art form with the truthfulness, community-building and empowerment that’s at the heart of great journalism.” – Emcee Megan Finnerty

To participate, first please register here (even if you’re only intending to attend the Storytellers event and not the pre-event mixer at Hob Nobs) so we know to anticipate you. We’ll attempt to snag seats so we can sit together at the event but our ability to do so may depend on the total number of attendees at this program. Look for our Cornell banners at the theatre!

Then be certain to purchase your ticket to the Storytellers program online. These events generally sell out so tickets probably will not be available at the door.  $10 general admission; $5 for students. All Arizona Republic and azcentral subscribers receive a complimentary, gourmet brownie from Fairytale Brownies at check-in.

Note that there is no charge from the Cornell Club of Arizona for this evening. You’ll be responsible for your own bill at Hob Nobs and for purchasing your own ticket to attend the Arizona Storytellers event.

If you require ASL Interpretation Services for this Storytellers event, or if you require accommodations related to mobility or seating, contact Alexus Rhone at arhone@gannett.com.

We look forward to seeing you for an evening of stories with friends old and new!
