Cornell Cares Day at Housing Works Thrift Shops on March 1, 2026 at Broadway & 96th Street!

Join NYC Cornellians volunteering at Housing Works Thrift Shops at their Broadway & 96th Street location. We will have two groups of 20 persons assisting the Thrift Shop at each location with their day-to-day operations under the supervision of the sales floor staff, such as: counter service; clothing rack care (primping displays, making sure articles have tags, etc.); organizing boxes and arrangements; light housekeeping and cleaning; assisting customers; and other activities. Please arrive just before the start time for the location below. Volunteers will receive a brief overview of Housing Works and their activities, how they can volunteer in other roles, and instructions for their shift.

There is a “break out room” for garments (I believe with lockers). However, volunteers should only bring what they can keep in their pockets as the room is not guarded nor secure. PPE (masks) will be provided, and water bottles will be available. Each volunteer is required to complete the waiver link below. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

For over 25 years, Housing Works has provided life-saving services to New Yorkers impacted by HIV/AIDS and homelessness. Through their comprehensive services—including housing, healthcare, job training, legal counseling, and advocacy—Housing Works has supported over 30,000 individuals since 1990. To sustain these efforts, Housing Works operates 10 Thrift Shops, a Bookstore Cafe, and various fundraising events.

Please complete the form using the following steps:

• Select the “Group” option.
• Fill in any fields that are marked with red asterisks in the first section, above the box asking for information about gender identity.
• Input “NYC Cornellians” in the “Volunteer Organization” field.
• Have any individuals who would like to share their gender identity and tracking information (this field is optional) do so.
• Below the tracking information field, please fill in the information for an emergency contact and phone number.
• Have your volunteers select the SHOPs option in the “Select Opportunities from the following choices” field.
• In the dropdown menu, select either the Gramercy or Broadway & 96th Street location.
• In the “Availability” fields, select March 1, 2026. You do not need to fill out the field that asks for a preferred day and time.
