On Saturday, February 29th, 2020, the Cornell Club of Western Washington is privileged to contribute to a day of service through volunteering at Northwest Harvest’s warehouse in Kent, Washington. We are requesting sixty (60) people from our membership and their families to volunteer to work one shift from 9 – 11 AM that day as we show our school and community spirit – and demonstrate once again that Cornellians care.

CCWW is assembling a group of sixty (60) volunteers to work at Northwest Harvest’s Kent warehouse on Saturday, February 29, 2020, for the 9 – 11 AM shift.

For questions about this event, please contact Steve Harris.

Volunteering at Northwest Harvest
Northwest Harvest could not do its work without the participation of many energetic volunteers. In fiscal year 2011, they have donated more than 88,000 hours of time and helped distribute 26 million pounds of food to 325 independent food banks and hot meal programs statewide.

Volunteers must wear closed-toe, flat shoes – no sandals, flip flops or high heels – and no jewelry, especially earrings, for safety reasons. Tennis shoes are fine. Please wear comfortable, casual clothing and dress in layers. The warehouse building can be warm or chilly. Lockers are provided for volunteers’ convenience; however, there may not be enough locks available on any particular shift to accommodate each volunteer. In addition to safety considerations, please leave jewelry at home as they can be lost rather quickly in the warehouse environment.

NW Harvest’s dress code is as follows:
JEWELRY: Please leave ALL jewelry, including watches and Fitbits, at home.  Jewelry may not be worn while packing food.  (Rings and medical jewelry are okay.)
SHOES: Closed-toe shoes are required.  (No sandals or flip flops of any kind permitted—including sandals with socks.)  Volunteers without closed-toe shoes will not be able to participate.
CLOTHING: Sleeves must completely cover underarms.  Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, and even cap sleeves are not permitted in the food packing rooms.  (Short sleeves are fine as long as underarms are completely covered.)

Note: children under the age of nine may not volunteer.

It is important that volunteers arrive ten minutes prior to their scheduled shift. A complete orientation, including safety training, will begin promptly at the beginning of the shift.

The safety and wholesomeness of the food being handled is always of primary concern. If you sign up and then are sick on the day of the event, please stay home and try to let us know that you are unable to attend.
