Join Cornell for an evening at the opera. It is opening night for this Mozart masterpiece! The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a short reception featuring appetizers, wine, beer and soft drinks, followed by a pre-performance discussion on Mozart’s music with Jessica Waldoff PhD ’95, before the opera begins at 7:30 pm.

The Marriage of Figaro is a comic opera in four acts composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The passions and perils of love and marriage collide in one uproarious day as Figaro struggles to get his bride, Susanna, to the altar unscathed. Identities are concealed, manners upended, plots foiled, imbroglio abounds … but Mozart’s glorious music assures that all’s well that ends well.

Jessica Waldoff PhD ’95 will lead us in a pre-performance discussion of the opera.  An internationally recognized scholar of eighteenth-century opera, Professor Waldoff is the author of Recognition in Mozart’s Operas (Oxford University Press, 2006) and several essays on the music of Haydn and Mozart published in scholarly books and journals. She is an Associate Professor at the College of the Holy Cross and Past President of the Mozart Society of America.
