Second Harvest Food Bank, Irvine

Did you know that we have 200,000 hungry people in the Orange County community?  Fight hunger, give back to the community, and network with fellow Cornellians as you sort, crate and box food that will be distributed directly to those in need.  The Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is extremely excited to welcome us back for another morning of do-good volunteering!  See below for details.

Who:  Cornellians, family and friends (minimum age of 14 years)

What:  Fight hunger

Where:  Second Harvest Food Bank, 8014 Marine Way, Irvine, CA 92618

When:  Saturday, January 6th from 8:30 am – 11:30 am

Why:  To help create a future where no one is hungry

How:  By sorting and packaging food items that will be distributed directly to the 200,000 hungry people in our community

Adult Sign Up
•        Online signup through this link is required and is for adults only
•       https://feedoc.volunteerhub.com/event/index/5211144 Just click the link, click “Sign Up” at the top right corner of the screen, and then create a profile or enter your username and password.
•         Each participating adult must complete their own registration and sign up
•         See below for information about minors

Minors
•         14-17-year-olds are welcome to attend
•         Must be accompanied by an adult 21-years-old or older – ratio of 1 adult to 10 minors
•         Must bring a completed minor liability form signed by their parent/guardian or will not be allowed to volunteer. The form can be found at this link – just click “Adult and Minor Warehouse Liability Form”
•         Accompanying adults must supervise minors at all times and volunteer alongside them

What to Wear and Expect
•         Closed-toed shoes are required
•         The temperature in the distribution center is similar to the temperature outside. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing accordingly.

Food and Monetary Donations
•         If you would like to bring your own food donations to your volunteer event, our current, most-needed shelf-stable items are:
o   peanut butter
o   canned meat
o   canned fruit
o   cereal (hot or cold)
•         Monetary donations of any size are greatly appreciated! 90 cents of every $1 goes toward our programs, and $1 can provide 3 meals. Click HERE if you would like to make a donation. Thank you for your support!
