CEN Ithaca presents Set me up for success: Entrepreneurs share their lessons learned

The panel of expert entrepreneurs will talk about lessons learned on their journeys and how to set yourself up for success.
Ali Hamed ’14, Ali Hamed is a Co-Founder and partner at CoVenture where he sits on the investment committee of its venture, credit and crypto funds. He also co-leads firm management, capital raising, and deal sourcing. He represents CoVenture on the board of Produce Pay Inc, SBI CoVenture Asset Management Co, LTD and on the board of CoVenture Crypto Holding Company. Ali has also spent time as a Board Partner at Compound, formerly known as Metamorphic Ventures, and attended Cornell University where he played varsity baseball, and studied at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Andreas Mustad ’94, Andreas Mustad is the co-founder of Nexwell Holdings, a company dedicated to the structuring, promotion and investment in business opportunities in the renewable sector which have a measurable impact on reducing climate change risk. Nexwell promotes these initiatives and makes these investments by guiding and partnering its portfolio companies with like-minded infrastructure investors, venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. Prior to Nexwell, Andreas founded and ran Sonnedix Global Holdings as its CEO from startup to a US$4 billion global solar power generation company over a 9 year period. His successful career spans more than 20 years in the energy and industrial sectors, with experience ranging from global executive leadership positions with accountability for all aspects of running a business, including strategy, performance, development, staffing and execution, to earlier roles in M&A and turn-around management. Andreas graduated as a structural engineer from Cornell University’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and has an MBA from IESE Business School in Spain. He is fluent in Spanish, French, English and Norwegian as well as conversant in German and Italian.
Michael Whitman ’91, Michael Whitman is the founding principal at Stuyvesant Trading Group, LLC in New York. A graduate of Cornell University with a BS in Applied Economics, he worked for the trading firm O’Connor & Associates before venturing on his own to open his own trading company, Stuyvesant Trading Group, LLC. The firm traded equity and index options generating outsized returns since inception by arbitraging volatility while utilizing sophisticated risk management controls as a member of the American Stock Exchange, NYSE, CBOE, ARCA, NYMEX and BATS. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Stock Exchange, Lead Governor, Senior Supervisory Official and the Chairman of Market Makers Association. He helped facilitate the sale of the American Stock Exchange to the New York Stock Exchange and served on the Board of Directors of the NYSE AMEX, LLC after the transition. Michael Whitman was also a founding member and primary financer of a high frequency equity trading firm the Gaussian Group, LLC where he identified strategies that utilized and profited from the firm’s superior technology and speed. Currently, he is serving on the Advisory Board of ABR Dynamic Funds, a global investment management firm focused on systematic quantitative strategies that treat volatility as an asset class.
