Our discussion will feature the novel, The Right-Hand Shore by award winning novelist and short story writer, Christopher Tilghman, Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Virginia

The book spans generations of the Bayly family as they live, work and struggle on their plantation on the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore of Maryland. The New York Times reviewer terms the book a “dark, magisterial creation of a writer with an uncanny feel for the intersections of place and character in American history.” The Fredericksburg, VA newspaper calls it “An epic of family, church, race, love and destiny” which “unfolds and amazes right up to the end…A gripping and beautifully written work.”

Professor Tilghman, the author, will join us for part of the meeting by phone, and possibly video, conference call.

Even if you don’t have time to finish reading the book, hearing directly from Professor Tilghman will be enlightening!  If you just want to spend some time with alumni, enjoy coffee/tea and sweets, you are welcome to join in!
