Event Details

Location: Sarasota, FL

We will tour the Upper Myakka Lake on a large pontoon boat, which sits comfortably high above the water for the best views.  After this, we will take a historic narrated motorized safari tram tour of the Park’s back country.  Each tour will take approximately one hour, with a break in-between.

Myakka River State Park was originally part of the Palmer cattle ranch and was acquired and developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.  The tour will focus on park ecology and natural history, with stories of the people who made their lives there.

Day and Date:  Saturday, April 6, 2019.
9-11:30 a.m.

The tours depart from the boat ramp, where parking, including handicapped parking, is available, along with benches on which to wait for the boat departure.  Cafe and Restrooms are at the same place.  The walk between the boat and the tram is the equivalent of about two city blocks.  [will check on availability of jeep or golf cart assistance]

Beginning and End Time:  Please plan to enter the park by 8:15 am, to allow you to arrive at the boat launch by 8:30.  The boat tour will begin at 9:00 am and will finish at 10 a.m. The tram leaves at 10:30. We’ll have a half hour between the two trips and will finish at 11:30 AM.

Meeting Location:
After passing the entrance gate off Clark Road/route 72, and paying the $6 per car Park entrance fee, proceed ahead to the boat launch, three miles inside the park.  Park in the lot by the boat launch and meet in the gazebo adjacent to the launch.
