Blinding snow. Biting cold. Long trudges uphill (both ways). Ah yes, I’m sure we all fondly remember those frigid Ithaca days!

Why does Ithaca get hammered by snow every winter? Why does the United States seem to be the global hot spot for some of the planet’s most violent and beautiful storms? What in the world is a “super storm,” and why was Sandy so unique?

Let’s talk about the wonderful, wild world of weather and climate – including a bit of science, a dash of history, and a behind-the-scenes look at how your local weather forecast is put together.

Dan Zarrow ’06 earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University. During his tenure in Ithaca, Dan learned the art and business of media by working at student-run WVBR-FM and Ithaca College’s ICTV. Since graduating, Dan’s career in broadcast meteorology has stretched from Oklahoma to Upstate New York to New Jersey.

Dan is now Chief Meteorologist for Townsquare Media’s New Jersey ten radio stations, including New Jersey 101.5, 94.3 the Point, and 92.7 WOBM. He also serves as Resident Weather Chaser for Chasing News, airing weeknights on My 9, Fox 5, and Fox 29. Dan is proud to have earned the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal of approval.
