Join us for our second of two Cornell Cares Days!
Create an immediate impact as you partner with fellow Cornellians to spend a few hours working with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona. By supporting Habitat’s goal of offering families the chance at decent, affordable housing, you help build community.
The Cornell Club of Arizona registration fee is $5 per person, which will go toward buying snacks for our volunteers. Habitat is looking for donations of $100 or more per volunteer to cover construction, permitting, and materials costs. While we are seeking sponsors for this event, you’re encouraged to donate $100 (or more) personally to Habitat for Humanity. When you make that donation by phone, through the mail, or via their website, please indicate that you’re contributing for this Cornell Club of Arizona event so our project will receive proper credit for your generosity. Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is a qualifying charitable organization for the Arizona State Tax Credit. Your gifts could reduce your Arizona State Income tax liability, dollar for dollar, depending on your tax situation. Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by the late Millard Fuller. Habitat and its 1,500 affiliates deliver solutions to the worldwide need for decent and affordable housing. Since 1976, it has built, renovated or repaired more than 820,000 homes in nearly 90 countries on six continents.
Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona has served 1,887 families in Maricopa and Pinal Counties since 1985. Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out, with a no-profit mortgage loan for new construction, renovation and owner-occupied home repair services for families who earn between 30 and 60 percent of the area’s median income. Habitat families build new lives as they transition from overcrowded, poverty shelter into decent, affordable homes.
Our work day will run from 7:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.-ish. We’ll be working indoors. Please come prepared to paint by wearing clothing that could handle some paint splatters and closed-toed shoes (boots or thick-soled sneakers are ideal). Clothes should fit comfortably, but should not be baggy. We ask that long sleeves are buttoned and long hair is pulled back. Hard hats are required when overhead work is being done and eye protection must be worn when operating power tools.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old cannot perform tasks such as working on the roof, using power tools and getting on ladders or scaffolding. All volunteers must sign a current waiver and new volunteers must attend an orientation before they will be allowed on site. Please print and sign the waiver, below, then bring it with you to this work day.
Despite what the Volunteer Packet says, we’ll provide lunch on-site to our hardworking laborers.
