Introduction to the Art and Design of Scandinavia
Tuesday May 10 at 3:00pm

Edvard Munch is a household name and justifiable so, but there are many other formidable artists who have made Scandinavia an art and design mecca. The clean lines and beautiful colors we associate with Scandinavian art come directly from the landscape with its lush greens, rhubarb reds, and crisp whites of a winter wonderland. This lecture, a brief introduction to the artistic heritage of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, also serves as a preview of CAU’s September tour of Scandinavia.

Nancy Green recently retired as the Gale and Ira Drukier Curator of European and American Art, Prints, and Drawings, 1800-1945, at Cornell’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. She joined the Johnson Museum staff in 1985 and during the next 30 years organized dozens of exhibitions at the Johnson Museum and elsewhere. While the subjects of these exhibitions are wide-ranging, her principal interest is in American and European art from the 19th century to the present.
