Join us for a private tour of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, one of 10 Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science laboratories and operated by Stanford University on behalf of the DOE. Since its opening in 1962, SLAC has been helping create the future. SLAC built the world’s longest particle accelerator, discovered some of the fundamental building blocks of matter and created the first website in North America. SLAC’s scientists are also exploring the cosmos, from the origin of the universe to the nature of dark energy, and developing the smaller, more efficient particle accelerators of the future.
Six scientists have been awarded Nobel prizes for work done at SLAC, and more than 1,000 scientific papers are published each year based on research at the lab. Dr. Chi-Chang Kao, SLAC’s Director and a Cornell alum, will drop by to speak to us for a few minutes during the tour depending on his availability.
The tour’s duration is 1.5 hours. Following the tour, we can meet at Reposado in Palo Alto for Happy Hour. Please register early as late registrants will have to pay higher prices. The registration closes two weeks before the event, so we can provide the guest list to SLAC for further processing.
