A picturesque fragment of Santa Clara County history lives on at the Picchetti Ranch Area. The area, named after brothers Vincenzo and Secondo Picchetti, dates back to the 1800s when Vincenzo emigrated from Italy and shortly thereafter purchased a parcel of land on the ridge of what he referred to as “Monte Bello,” Italian for beautiful mountain. The Picchetti Ranch features a brick winery building and farm complex.
Join fellow Cornell alumni for a hike at the beautiful Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve located in the foothills of Cupertino of the South Bay. We will hike the Zinfandel trail.
Post hike Meal: Join us for a group lunch after the hike. Location TBD
Meeting Location: Meet at the parking lot at the entrance of the Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve (Next to Picchetti Winery). There are two parking lots: one for the winery and one for the preserve. Please park in the open space preserve’s parking lot.
Trail Length: About 4.5-5 miles.
Directions:
Exit Foothill Expressway from Highway 280, travel 3.5 miles southwest (toward the mountains) on Foothill Boulevard/Stevens Canyon Road. Turn right on Montebello Road. The Preserve is 0.5 miles up Montebello Road on the left.
GPS Coordinates* for Trailhead:
Latitude 37°17’40.30″N
Longitude 122° 5’28.86″W
Notes:
1. To enter into the Picchetti Ranch complex, you will take a left on Montebello Road. This road immediately forks into two. Stay to the right of the fork to enter the parking lot for the hiking trails, which is also our meeting point. Avoid the left side of the fork, as it will take you to the Picchetti vineyard’s parking lot.
2. This is an easy/moderate hike. Dress in layers based on the weather conditions.
