Location: Half Moon Bay, CA
When: 14 Jan 2017, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Location: 5929 Pacific Coast Hwy, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019
Don’t miss the opportunity to hike Gray Whale Trail with Cornell alumni and friends. You’ll be treated to incredible views of ocean and surf – and might even spot a Gray Whale heading north with its calves.
Join Cornell alumni and friends for an exhilarating hike of the Gray Whale Coastal Trail – between Pacifica and Montara.
We’ll hike up Pedro Mountain, starting on the Gray Whale Trail, then up a short, somewhat steep face with incredible views of the ocean and surf.
We’ll continue up Pedro Mountain Road (the old 1914-1947 road between Pacifica and Montara), and up on to Pedro Mountain itself, above the new tunnel. Depending on the group, we’ll either retrace our steps, or continue to the new Devil’s Slide Park, and then about 1 mile back to the parking lot at the trailhead.
If we are lucky, we may see Gray Whales heading north with their calves. It will be just at the start of the migration path north to Alaska, from Baja California.
Date: Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
Location: Meet at Gray Whale Cove parking lot by 1:00 PM (http://goo.gl/maps/Bpjp4). The trailhead is directly next to the parking lot (5929 Pacific Coast Hwy, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019)
Trail Length: About 1000 feet of vertical gain, about 6 miles, with possible side trips if desired.
Post Hike Meal: We will announce the restaurant location (in nearby Half Moon Bay) via email the night before the hike.
Special Notes: Wear RED so we can easily keep the group together. Make sure you dress in layers, since even on nice days it can get windy, and sometimes the fog can come in surprisingly quickly.
