Here’s where things stand on federal research funding:
- A few weeks ago, President Kotlikoff announced the university’s agreement to restore federal research activity and funding halted in April. (See this detailed FAQ for more information about the agreement.)
- The USDA is funded through September, as part of the November deal to reopen the government.
- Other research agencies are only funded until the end of January.
Congress must not let funding lapse again for the NIH, NSF, Defense, Energy, and other important research funders.
After the federal budget bill passes, the future of science is still murky. For example, will the U.S. reduce science funding across the board? What types of research will be funded, at what types of institutions?
