Join NYC Cornellians, families and friends on Saturday, November 14th at 1 p.m. for a family-friendly morning of giving back in the Bronx!

The Grassroots Grocery Produce Party brings families together in the Bronx to sort, pack, and (optionally) deliver thousands of pounds of fresh produce to neighbors across Harlem, Upper Manhattan, and the Bronx.  It’s become has quickly become one of the most popular and highest-energy family-friendly volunteer events in NYC.

We will meet to hear the story of Grassroots Grocery from founder Dan Zauderer.  Next, we will work together to unload, sort, and pack a truck filled with over 12,000 lbs. of unsold produce rescued from the biggest produce market in the US.  Produce will be loaded in the vehicle of volunteer drivers who will deliver to over 30  pre-assigned community sites.  You may also volunteer to be a driver.

Only one in four New Yorkers who experience a food emergency access a food pantry, citing both physical barriers – such as transportation and inconvenience – and emotional ones, including stigma, discrimination, or even just dignity.

Grassroots Grocery removes those barriers by bringing the pantry to the people. As a bottom-up movement, Grassroots Grocery partners with trusted community leaders who distribute food to their neighbors.
