Trained in biological anthropology and animal behavior, for the last two decades, Dr. Wendy Erb has studied the ecology, social behavior, health, communication, and conservation of wild primates – from lemurs in Madagascar, to tamarins in Bolivia, and leaf monkeys and orangutans in Indonesia. Wendy’s active participatory research program draws on diverse theories and methods from the social and natural sciences – with a central focus on bioacoustics, or the sounds of nature – to understand the shared worlds of primates and people. Having lived and worked with Indigenous communities in Indonesia since 2005, Wendy is deeply committed to cultivating deep relationships and co-creating meaningful research that matters to local people. Fluent in the national language, a true connoisseur of durian, and most at home in the remote forests and villages of Borneo, Wendy’s friends and colleagues have lovingly granted her an ‘honorary Indonesian’ status.
In addition to Cornell scientist Wendy Erb, this journey will feature faculty from peer institutions including Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth.
