The good Cornellians can do: Susan Meier ’86

Susan crosses the finish line at the Marathon Pour Tous event at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

After earning a degree in nutritional biochemistry at Cornell, Susan Meier '86 found she missed the stimulation of Cornell. She started running road races as a way to get more active. Susan found that the longer the race, the better she performed. In 1996, at the age of 33, Susan ran her first marathon.

Thirty years later, Susan is approaching her 70th marathon. On April 20, 2026, she’ll run the Boston Marathon as part of the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Gives Back charity team.

“The Boston Athletic Association offers year-round community programming that brings people together through running and fitness,” Susan says. “BAA creates welcoming spaces for all ages and abilities to stay active, connect with others, and celebrate the joy of movement. I’m honored to have been selected to run and fundraise on their behalf!”

Susan recently retired from her career at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, where she supported clinical research trials worldwide. But her journey is far from finished. She looks forward to running in the 130th Boston Marathon, which she says is “the dream” for most serious marathoners, and to many more races to come.
