The good Cornellians can do: Ryan McInchak ’24
In June 2023, Ryan McInchak '24 and fellow members of the Cornell Men’s Hockey team traveled to Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, for a week of service. Team members worked with the Portal de Belen Foundation to build latrines, distribute clothing and food to those in need, and provide computers and supplies to local schools.
Inspired by this experience, Ryan joined the foundation's executive board a few months later, where he continues to help underserved individuals and communities in the Dominican Republic. Through this non-profit, Ryan is focused on helping:
- children with Down syndrome access education and healthcare resources;
- Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic access basic services and legal assistance; and
- install latrines to improve sanitation in areas of need.
Ryan says his week of service last summer was transformative: “I witnessed firsthand the profound impact we can make in the lives of those less fortunate. The experience was deeply moving and inspired me to take a more active role in supporting these communities.”
