The good Cornellians can do: Jesse DeSalvo ’05

Jesse DeSalvo '05 shares sports equipment (and many more educational resources) through his nonprofit, World Without Barriers.

Soon after graduating from Cornell, Jesse DeSalvo '05 set out to put his education to good use. He founded World Without Barriers, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to education for children in underserved communities.

The organization provides educational materials, skills workshops, art supplies, sanitary materials, medicine, clean water, and sports equipment to schools and communities in rural Africa, Latin America, and Asia—with a focus on marginalized groups.

“We currently have the most educated population out of any point in human history, which masks the fact that certain groups have been left behind,” Jesse says on his website. “I have long believed that education can be leveraged as a mechanism to lift underserved groups out of poverty. It is not a revolutionary or novel idea, but one that works consistently in practice and is supported by robust evidence.”

Cornellians around the globe are sharing how they do good in communities big and small. Share your own story.
