Food and agricultural scholar Bobby J. Smith II MS 13, PhD ’18 researches what he calls food power politics—how food was used as a weapon against African Americans during the civil rights movement in Mississippi, and how they responded by creating their own local food systems. On Nov 14 he will give the 2024 Bouchet Lecture on campus.
