This Louisiade pitta is one of the ‘lost’ species of birds that was recently rediscovered in Papua New Guinea.

Looking for ‘lost’ species of birds, scientists combed through 40+ million images—including 33+ million photos from the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. They identified 144 bird species from around the world that haven't been recorded in the past 10 years. This Louisiade pitta is one of the ‘lost’ species that was recently rediscovered in Papua New Guinea.
