Beebe Lake was first created by a dam built by Ezra Cornell. In 1904 the university built a 1.5-megawatt hydroplant 145 feet below the lake. "It's the original carbon-free energy source!" says Bert Bland, associate VP for energy & sustainability. Cornell just received a 40-megawatt hydroplant license renewal from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
