June 5, 2024  |  In fall 1950, Oliver Brown tried to enroll his seven-year-old daughter Linda in the Sumner Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas. Black children were not allowed to attend. The Browns appealed, ultimately leading to the monumental Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education decision on May 17, 1954. Linda is seated third from the left and her father, Oliver Brown, is standing second from the left.
