Lights out for migrating birds
Billions of birds are migrating north this month, mostly at night. Artificial lights can attract and disorient the birds. Hundreds of millions of birds die in collisions with buildings annually.
Turning out your lights at night can help keep birds safe on their migration home. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is part of an international Lights Out effort to encourage people to take this simple action to help protect our birds: from now through mid-June, turn out your lights from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
