The International Spirit of Zinck’s Night is an annual Cornell University tradition held on the third Thursday of October, bringing together Cornellians worldwide for an evening of camaraderie, Cornell pride, and celebration. The tradition is rooted in Cornell’s fight song, “Give My Regards to Davy,” which ends with the line: “We’ll all have drinks at Theodore Zinck’s when I get back next fall!” Theodore Zinck was an Ithaca saloon owner who ran Zinck’s (also known as the Hotel Brunswick) on Aurora Street from about 1879 until his death in 1903. His bar became a popular hangout for Cornell students and alumni, and after his death, several establishments borrowed the name until the last closed in 1967.
