About David Hines:
David served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968, including a tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, where he was stationed near the DMZ separating North and South Vietnam. During his service, David was injured three times and received three Purple Hearts along with numerous other medals after just 10 months in combat.
Upon returning to the United States, he was assigned to security duty at the U.S. Naval Base in Cuba—an experience reminiscent of the setting in the movie A Few Good Men. David was honorably discharged in April 1968.
Following his military service, David joined the Fire Department as a Senior Arson Investigator. After retiring from that role, he attended the Police Academy and served as a Deputy Sheriff for 11 years. In 2013, David relocated to Naples, Florida.
David was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame for his decades of volunteer work with veterans’ organizations, food pantries, and St. Matthew’s House. He continues to volunteer two days a week at the Baker Senior Center.
Since 2019, David has served as President of the Veterans History Museum, now located inside the Collier County Museum building on the Collier County Government Center campus near Airport Road and U.S. 41.
