This year’s Cornell Cares event will be held at 412 Food Rescue (412foodrescue.org) inside the Food & Energy Hub in Millvale. This organization works with food retailers to prevent surplus food from going to waste and redirects it to nonprofit partners that serve those who are food insecure.
We’ll have two activities for our volunteers, the Good Food Project and the Grocery Bagging Program. The Good Food Project transforms surplus foods into healthy, heat-and-eat meals and the Grocery Bagging Program takes bulk foods and repackages them into individual servings. Over 500 grocery bags are packed and loaded onto a truck each week to be distributed over various locations.
Participants must be 16 years of age to participate, and under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. This is a great opportunity for students in the Pittsburgh area who are off for Winter Break or those who are available during the workday. Please contact cornellclubpgh@gmail.com for any questions.
