Event Details

Join the Cornell Alumni Association of Greater Houston for a guided evening tour of “Frida: The Making of an Icon” at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH)- a compelling exhibition that explores the life, image, and enduring legacy of Frida Kahlo beyond her paintings, revealing how she carefully crafted her public identity through fashion, photography, and personal symbolism.

The tour will be led by fellow Cornellian Joyce Olewe, who is an art educator, curator, and creative strategist whose work bridges visual art, cultural narrative, and global discourse. Many may remember Joyce from her engaging and insightful CAAGH tour of Kehinde Wiley’s exhibit 2 years ago, where she brought depth, context, and dynamic conversation to the experience.

Attendees can expect an immersive, thought-provoking exploration of Kahlo’s artistry and persona, guided by Joyce’s distinctive interpretive lens shaped by decades in art education and practice.

Attendees are required to purchase individual tickets directly from MFAH for $10 here. (Please be sure to secure tickets for Thursday evening, May 14th)

Please note: This exhibition is rated PG-13 and includes themes and imagery involving nudity, violence, smoking, and sensuality.

Plan your visit: Parking, hours of operation and map are here. Note: The museum is near the METRO light rail line

Kindly RSVP here after purchasing your tickets.
