TOPIC: How Medical TV Shows Translate into Education
DATE: Wednesday, March 11, 2026
TIME: 7:00 p.m. ET
LOCATION: Zoom (Webinar link will be shared after registration is submitted)

Join Dr. Jeff Drayer ’93 as he gives a behind-the-scenes webinar on how the storytelling engine of medical television can teach us about illness, healthcare, our own bodies, and the highs, lows, and all the ethical dilemmas in between of being a modern physician. Drawing from his work as a practicing doctor and a writer of medical procedurals, Dr. Drayer will trace the full lifecycle of an episode. From idea to outline, script, pre-production, and shooting it all on set, he’ll demonstrate how real-life cases and experiences are shaped into the characters and stories that come into our homes to make us laugh, cry – and sometimes cover our eyes – each and every week.

Jeff Drayer is a physician and TV writer who seamlessly blends real-world medicine with scripted storytelling. A graduate of Cornell University in 1993, he authored the medical school tell-all The Cost-Effective Use of Leeches before moving to Los Angeles to practice medicine. Once there, he quickly pivoted to television, doing a brief stint as a medical consultant on NBC’s Mercy, before spending nearly a decade and a half writing and producing USA’s Royal Pains and Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med. Known for his clinical authenticity grounded in warmth, humor, and humanity, Dr. Drayer continues to develop new network pilots and consult on numerous other series.
