In May 2024, a Presidential election year, Professor Sarah Federman took ten master’s students on a cross-country Amtrak trip that originated in San Diego, and ended in Washington D.C. The train trip allowed students to cross state divides, along with other divides such as urban/rural, red/blue, eco/fossil fuel, and incarcerated/free. Sarah will discuss the various conflicts they studied as well as the exciting experience students had going to new places and engaging with strangers. Using the train class as a launching point, she’ll discuss how to find common ground and connect! Sarah Federman is an Associate Professor of Conflict Resolution at the University of San Diego’s Kroc School of Peace Studies.
