Bio:
Patricia Calhoun is editor emeritus of Westword, the Denver alternative weekly she co-founded in September 1977 with two fellow members of the Cornell University class of 1976. After graduating from Cornell, she and other Cornell Daily Sun alumni started the SandPaper on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Calhoun then moved west to launch Westword, where she served as editor-in-chief until July 2026.

She has been inducted into the Colorado Press Association Hall of Fame, the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame, the Association of Alternative Newsmedia Hall of Fame, and the Colorado Restaurant Association Hall of Fame. Her work has earned dozens of local, state, and national journalism awards, including first-place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists for feature writing and column writing.

Calhoun continues to write a column for Westword and appears weekly on Colorado Inside Out, PBS12’s public affairs roundtable, as well as on City Cast Denver. She played a real reporter in John Sayles’ Silver City, once interviewed President Bill Clinton while wearing flip flops, and recently wrote about Colorado’s primary election for The Nation.
